The greatest figure is Buddha Amitabha, in Japan Amida Nyorai, the central figure in so-called Amidism. Amida stands on a lotus base and holds his hands in abhaya (protective gesture) and varada (wish fulfillment), however respectively thumbs and index fingers are touching in “argumentation“. Curly hair, large radiating wreath, the bodhisattva Padmapani (right) and a further praying as companion figures. On left, seven figures form an orchestra, respectively standing heavenly creatures play various instruments like mouth organ sho (also called “Pan′s flute “), the lute biwa, the zither koto, then bamboo flute and especially gongs, one flaming with mitsudomoe in the middle, another with a perched rooster. Lotus blossom petals are flying around. In passe-partout.
