Yellow bronze. India, 18th to 19th cent.
Cylindrical vessel with a flat bottom and slightly inclined, flared lip. The wall is decorated with bizzare fields containing either ribbed or floral patterns. A narrow jagged border at the top and bottom and similarly on the lip. The oil lamp in cylindrical form with a cusped protrusion at the front side of the basin. The arched back wall is jagged with flames and holds a relief on both sides. The goddess Lakshmi in the center, with a tall crown and large breasts, surrounded by detailed patterns, a baldachin above her, two to three additional heads (one spiritual protector) are also implied.
