Colours and some gold on paper. India, Pahari, early 19th cent.
Very good painting from the northern Pahari-school. In front of a park background is a large terrace with a circular green lawn and a black rug on it. A man in worshipping-pose is kneeling on it; before him is the Balakrishna (Krishna as a boy), adorned with jewelry chains and a bowl of rice in front. Other gold vessel are around him; furthermore, the swastika symbol and an open book. The exceedingly fine painted standing dame could be Krishna’s mother Yashoda. In the garden is a golden swing and on the terrace of a white pavilion in the background, three dames. Minor paint-chippings, faults due to age along the edges covered by the passe-partout, overall good condition.
