Yellow bronze. India, approx. 19th cent.
A highly unconventional small container for spices in seven blossom-leafed form with a screw top. The seven individual, radially arranged small bowls have leaf-shaped lids directed towards the centre with their pointed end. All of the seven lids can be opened upon unscrewing the top closure, which depicts a small peacock three-dimensionally. Their hinges are located between the outwardly positioned loop pieces, which – together with the ribbed ledges in the middle of the leaves – emphasize the spoke-like formation. The container stands on seven short cylindrical legs. On the closure beneath the peacock is a rosette, possibly also a blossom. Dark, blackened patina.
