Mid 19th century, Scotland. This fine example of typical form. The removable top section, latching with scrolled brass lever, opening to reveal a compartment designed to house a cast iron slug of conforming shape no longer present. The iron with baluster turned mahogany handle with turned brass terminals joined S-scroll brass supports. Together with the original molded fitted brass stand raised on suppressed ball feet. Iron retains original cleaned surface with normal and expected in-use wear and minimal corrosion. Very good overall. Condition: Dimensions: 6-3/4" x 7-1/2" x 5-1/4".
