拍品描述: depicting Perseus with the head of Medusa, standing with the sword held in his right hand, while the left raises the head of the monster held by the hair triumphant, resting on an architectural element with four niches in which are placed the statues of Jupiter, Mercury, Minerva and Danae, on a square sodalite base with rectangular 18kt yello gold bas-relief depicting the liberation of Andromeda, 27x6x6 cm.The sculpture is taken from the bronze sculpture of Benvenuto Cellini (1500 - 1571) placed in the Lanzi lodge in Piazza della Signoria, Florence. Commissioned by Cosimo I after his inauguration as Duke of the city, it was built between 1545 and 1554. The Perseus clearly has a political significance, like most of the statues placed on the square: it represents the affirmation of the Duke who gives a "cut" to the republican experiences, represented by Medusa.
