Bruce Wood is known today as a painter and art conservator, but in the 1970's he was an active and noted maker of abstract avant-garde art films. The painting offered here is actually based on an enlarged still frame from one of his 16mm films, Between Glances.
He traveled extensively showing his films in museums and colleges in the U.S., Scandinavia, Great Britain and Europe. Solo exhibitions were held at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, London's Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Danish Film Museum, and many others. His films are now in the collections of the Andy Warhol Museum and the Royal Film Archive of Belgium. Similar paintings from this series are in the Rockford Art Museum and the photographs they are based on are in the collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris.
A retrospective exhibition of Bruce Wood's films was held in Chicago in 2011, and his work was included in exhibitions of abstract films of the 1970's in New York and London.
The painting is in excellent condition, and comes directly from the artist's family. It is matted in acid-free materials and framed in a black aluminum frame.
