This wakizashi has a clear utsuri in the jigane and a bright, clear suguha hamon with a rounded boshi, indicating excellent craftsmanship.

This blade is of the katate-uchi type, characterized by a pronounced curvature and a length approaching that of a katana, while remaining intended for one-handed use. Developed as a form of wakizashi suited to close-quarters combat, this type gained popularity during the Muromachi period. Typical examples are distinguished by a relatively short nakago and a blade length of approximately 60 cm.

The Norimitsu lineage began with a student of Kamakura-period Nagamitsu and continued for six generations into the late Muromachi period. This present wakizashi can be attributed to the fourth-generation Kansho Norimitsu, known for his bright, clear suguha and excellent jigane with utsuri.

The artist of the fuchi, Jutokusai Sukenao (c. 1845) is listed in Robert E. Haynes, The Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists, p. 1791 (H 08997.0). He was the son of Shikichi.
