Scientific Analysis Report: A thermoluminescence analysis report issued by Oxford Authentication on 25 February 2026, based on sample number C126b60, sets the firing date of all three samples taken between 900 and 1500 years ago, consistent with the dating above. A copy of the report accompanies this lot.China, 618-907. Finely modeled as a youthful female archer on horseback, her arms extended and raised in the act of drawing a bow, attired in a short tunic with broad lapels crossing over the chest. Her round face is defined by narrow almond-shaped eyes, a small nose, and full lips, the details finely painted, her hair neatly arranged in a high chignon. The powerful steed is naturalistically rendered with raised head marked by pricked funnel-shaped ears, bulging eyes staring forward, a well-pronounced snout, and a flowing mane.Provenance: Galerie Christian Deydier, Paris, France. A private collection in France, acquired from the above. A copy of a signed and stamped certificate from Galerie Christian Deydier, dated 23 September 2025, confirming the dating above, accompanies this lot. At the age of twenty-six, he published his first major scholarly work with the école Fran?aise d'Extreme-Orient, followed in 1980 by Les Bronzes Chinoises, the first comprehensive synthesis devoted to Chinese bronzes. Appointed an expert at the H?tel Drouot, he went on to establish Oriental Bronzes Ltd, first in London in 1987 and subsequently in Paris, a gallery that evolved into today's Galerie Christian Deydier, internationally recognized for its exceptional selection of archaic Chinese bronzes as well as its exhibitions and presentations shown at major venues and art fairs in Paris, Brussels, Hong Kong, and New York. Through his scholarship, gallery program, and publications, Deydier has made a lasting contribution to the academic study and connoisseurly appreciation of ancient Chinese art.Condition: Very good condition with expected wear, firing irregularities, signs of prolonged burial, encrustations, few small nicks and shallow surface scratches, some flaking to ancient pigments, few old repairs and occasional minor touchups, all as expected from authentic Tang dynasty excavations.Weight: 3,791 gDimensions: Height 41.3 cmPottery horses such as the present lot held deep significance, representing high social status and immense wealth.
