China, 19th century. Finely cast in mirror image, depicting two bearded men wearing long cloaks and wide-brimmed hats decorated with scrolling foliage, each holding a ruyi scepter and holding their reins as they ride on a superbly modeled and richly gilt mule with delicately worked mane and brightly enameled saddlecloth. (2)Provenance: From an old European private collection, acquired before 1970, and thence by descent. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, manufacturing irregularities, small dents, minor losses to enamels, rubbing to gilt, tiny nicks, light surface scratches, a little paint residue to one leg.Weight: 4,017 g (total) Dimensions: Length 23.5 cm (each), Height 32.5 cm (each)Auction result comparison: Type: Closely related Auction: Christie's New York, 6 April 2005, lot 404 Price: USD 4,200 or approx.
