Il invente la balance à compensation fixe. Grace à ses inventions il est en mesure de fabriquer les chronomètres les plus précis jamais produits. En 1903, ses montres gagnent les concours des observatoires de Kew et Neuchatel. En 1912, il gagne le record mondial chronométrique de l'Observatoire Royale de Kew.De plus, il collabore étroitement avec le prix Nobel de physique, Charles-Edouard Guillaume.
