拍品描述
Published: Myrna Myers (ed.) & Filippo Salviati (auth.), The Language of Adornment. Chinese Ornaments of Jade, Crystal, Amber and Glass, Paris, 2002, no. 123.Expert's note:This type of dragon-adorned headdress ornament would have been appropriate for a man of high rank during the Ming dynasty. From a typological perspective, such ornaments appear to derive from earlier Liao, Jin, and Yuan precedents, where animal-shaped carvings were worn on ceremonial or ritual occasions.China, 15th-16th century. Carved in relief with a pair of sinuous chilong writhing around the sides, their mouths emanating ruyi-shaped clouds, all above an oval base drilled with two apertures for suspension. The semi-translucent stone is of a pale celadon color with cloudy white inclusions, and a small brown area. Provenance: The Collection of Sam and Myrna Myers, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012. With two collection numbers '117' and '4797'.Condition: Very good condition with minor old wear. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures. Minuscule nibbling.Weight: 88.9 gDimensions: Length 5 cmLiterature comparison:Compare a related jade headdress ornament, dated 14th-16th century, 3.8 cm long, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, object number 02.18.391.Auction result comparison: Type: Closely relatedAuction: Sotheby's New York, 15 September 2018, lot 1421Price: USD 15,000 or approx.
