Description

Textile apron of purple silk with a floral pattern, the upper edge set with seven oblong plaques suspending interlocking double chains with small square and almond-shaped plaques at the intersections; a necklace composed of five chains with alternating oblong and almond-shaped plaques; and a choker necklace and bracelets, each with five or three oblong plaques mounted on textile bands with orange borders. All plaques carved with Buddhas, dancing apsaras, chitipati, vajra, and other auspicious symbols, as well as various animals and floral ornamental designs. This lot contains materials which require a CITES licence for export outside of the EU contract countries. We would like to inform you that such licenses are usually not granted.

Provenance

According to the consigner from the collection of Dr. Klaus Dobat (1939-2023), former scientific director and curator of the Botanical Garden at Tübingen University, acquired in 1973 in Kathmandu from the collection of Dr. Bajracharya (1945-2013), who acquired it in the early 1960s in Leh (Ladakh)
