拍品描述

Description

Long chain with 52 large pearls carved in shape of "laughing" human skulls, alternating with small flat round beads. In Tibetan Buddhism, the skull is a symbol of impermanence, reminding practitioners that all worldly phenomena inevitably dissolve into death and emptiness. When worn or displayed by wrathful deities like Mahakala, Yamantaka and Vajrayogini, skulls signify the transformation of fear, mortality, and ignorance into transcendent wisdom and liberation. A garland of fifty or more skulls often represents the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, encompassing the entire realm of sound and conceptual thought, which the deity consumes to reveal ultimate truth. Thus, the skull becomes not a morbid emblem, but a tantric reminder that even death and defilement can be harnessed on the path to awakening. This lot contains materials which require a CITES licence for export outside of the EU contract countries. We would like to inform you that such licenses are usually not granted.
