拍品描述

Description

Of large spherical shape, set on a very flat, wide foot ring. Covered with a crackled, highly porous, salmon-coloured glaze with greyish spots, leaving the foot exposed. Stamped Raku inside the foot ring. Gold lacquer repairs. Cotton cloth and cotton bag (shifuku). Wooden box, inscribed on the lid: …raku aka chawan. The potter's seal ‘Raku’ on this chawan is that of Ichigen (1662—1722), illegitimate son of Ichinyū (1640—1696), 4th head of the Raku family. Trained in the Raku family, he moved to Tamamizu (present-day Ide-chō Tamamizu, south of Kyoto), where he established his own kiln. Known as Tamamizu-yaki, this kiln existed until the early Meiji period.
