Description

A PALE CELADON JADE RETICULATED ‘DRAGONS’ PLAQUE, MING DYNASTY

China, 1368-1644. Finely carved in reticulated layers to depict a pair of four-clawed dragons, sinuously coiling within lobed cartouches, flanking the characters Fu (happiness) and Shou (longevity), all against scrolling vines interspersed with phoenixes and set within a rectangular border. The translucent stone of a pale greenish-white tone with few pale brown inclusions.

Provenance: Property of a Gentleman from South Africa. European private collection, acquired from the above via the British trade.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and natural imperfections including fissures and inclusions. Few minuscule nicks, minute shallow chips, and tiny nibbles.
