A SILVER EWER WITH ROMAN INFLUENCE, ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN REGION

Circa 1st Millenium AD. Of ovoid form, raised on a stemmed foot with a spreading lip, the broad shoulders rising to a stepped neck centered by the head of a deity and crowned by a headdress doubling as the vessel’s mouth, applied to one side with a scrolling handle.

Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: Fair condition, commensurate with age. Ancient wear, manufacturing irregularities, some losses, warping, scattered nicks and scratches, dents. Some old soldering marks and other restoration work. Overall with expected tarnish.
