Description

A SANDSTONE HEAD OF A MALE DEITY, ANGKOR PERIOD

Khmer Empire, 12th-13th century. Sensitively carved, the serene face with wide eyes under gently arched brows, incised round pupils, a broad nose, and full lips forming a gentle smile, flanked by large ears, the hair arranged in a high chignon decorated with floral emblems and backed by a foliate tiara.

Provenance: From an old private collection in the United Kingdom.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, natural imperfections, obvious losses, signs of weathering and erosion, encrustations, chips, nicks.

Dimensions: Height 22 cm (excl. stand), 33 cm (incl. stand)
