Description

A PAIR OF EMBOSSED SILVER BOWLS, BURMA, LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Each with deep rounded sides which have been finely embossed and chased with ornate designs. The first is decorated with cartouches enclosing various animals, including a snake, rat, rabbit, and monkey, all set against a foliate ground and framed by decorative bands. The second depicts birds nestled among scrolling foliate sprays, with additional bands encircling the top and bottom edges. (2)

Provenance: Collection of Alexander F?rster, thence by descent to Dr. Michael F?rster, and thence by descent in the same family. Alexander F?rster was an Austrian art dealer and expert who worked as an appraiser of Asian art for the auction house Dorotheum in Vienna during the 1960s.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and traces of use. Minuscule scratches, few small nicks, light warping.
