Description

A GREEN-GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF A DOG, HAN DYNASTY

China, 206 BC to 220 AD. Charmingly modeled with the head raised, its mouth agape revealing the tongue beneath a broad nose, the stout body standing squarely on strong legs, the tail curled around itself above the strong haunches, the animal covered in a thin, slightly iridescent green glaze.

Provenance
: From a private collection in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, assembled during the 1970s and 1980s.
Condition: Condition commensurate with age. A repair to the neck with associated touchups, as generally expected from Han dynasty excavations. Extensive wear to the glaze, few minor chips, small losses, firing cracks. Some weathering and erosion from long-time burial.

Weight: 1.5 kg
Dimensions: Height 18.8 cm, Length 25 cm
