拍品描述
A WOOD NETSUKE OF A SNARLING BOAR, ATTRIBUTED TO HIDARI ISSANAttributed to Hidari Issan, unsignedJapan, Iwashiro province, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)Boldly carved as a boar (inoshishi) with its forelegs bent as it lifts its upper body, the snout turned upwards, and mouth opened snarling. The wood attractively worn with a deep patina.LENGTH 4.4 cmCondition: Worn condition. Restoration to one hoof. Two filed cracks to the body as well as minor losses and other traces of use. The blackening of the wood indicates possible old fire damage.Provenance: From a noted private collection in Munich.Auction comparison: Compare a related wood netsuke of a boar, by Hidari issan, at Bonhams, Fine Japanese Works of Art including Selections from the Collection of Ruth and Carl Barron, 16 September 2014, New York, lot 2074 (sold for 5,625 USD).
