(2016) Kokusai The Genius: and Stag-antler Carving in Japan, Vol. III, p. 352-353, no. 546.In the form of a long bamboo leaf on a gnarled nodal stem, the tip of the leaf folded and shown on the reverse. The back ink-engraved with a Chinese poem and signed with two seals.Inscriptions: Inscribed with a Chinese poem, ‘A thatched hut in the mountains; sometimes a recluse stops by. He'll point to where wild clouds rise, but won't discuss human affairs at all.’ With an engraved signature ‘Nishudo Mugai Kensai’, with sunken relief seal ‘Kensai’.HEIGHT 21.3 cmCondition: Excellent condition with minor expected wear. The poem is the first half of one of a series by the great late Ming cultural hero, Dong Qichang (alternatively: Tung Chi-chang), 1555-1636.
