拍品描述
Deities (道教诸神会图) Late Qing Dynasty to early Republic of China (c. 19th–early 20th century) This hanging scroll painting presents a pantheon of male Daoist deities in a celestial audience scene. At the center top is a figure likely representing the Jade Emperor (玉皇大帝) — ruler of the Daoist heavens — characterized by his commanding posture, elaborate crown, and central placement. Flanking him are high-ranking Daoist immortals or gods, potentially including: ? Tai Shang Lao Jun (太上老君) — deified Laozi, often shown with long beard and holding a scroll or alchemical symbol. ? Lingbao Tianzun (灵宝天尊) and Yuanshi Tianzun (元始天尊) — part of the Three Pure Ones (三清). ? Other celestial officials such as Wenchang Dijun (文昌帝君) — god of literature, or Leizhenzi (雷震子) — thunder god. In the lower registers are celestial scribes, astrologers, and minor star deities holding scrolls, tablets, and ritual objects. Their formal arrangement suggests a divine bureaucratic structure, echoing the imperial court of Qing China. The painting likely served a religious or ceremonial function, perhaps displayed in a Daoist temple or used in domestic ancestor and deity worship. 200 x 86 cm
