? A FIVE-CASE BLACK ON BLACK LACQUER INRO WITH A MINOGAME

By a member of the Kajikawa family, signed Kajikawa 梶川 saku 作 and with a red pot seal Ei 英
Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)

Of upright rectangular form, brilliantly lacquered in yamimaki-e (black on black lacquer). The design features a minogame (mythical long-tailed turtle) gracefully extending across both sides of the inro, positioned behind the Three Friends of Winter (pine, bamboo, and plum), and a crane, together symbolizing resilience and longevity. Signed to the underside KAJIKAWA with a red pot seal. The interior of nashiji with gold fundame rims.

With a solid gold ojime depicting chrysanthemums, signed Kazunori saku [made by Kazunori].

LENGTH 4.5 cm, HEIGHT 8.6 cm

Condition: Very good condition with only age-related traces of use and minor wear.
Provenance: From a noted private collection, with an auction label ‘3824’ to the top case.
