Finely carved as a monkey in the role of an actor, gripping a double gourd (hyotan) with one hand while attempting to extract a finger from its mouth with the other. The monkey's face is expressively rendered, with wide eyes double-inlaid in dark and pale horn and a slightly opened mouth baring teeth.
