RAKUMIN: A FINE WOOD NETSUKE OF A YAMABUSHI

Finely carved to depict a seated Yamabushi, holding a conch shell to his mouth to use as a horn, the left hand holding a shakujo, the face with a strenuous expression as he blows, and displaying tengu-esque features including a pointed nose, eyebrows with curled tips above a pair of inlaid eyes painted behind thin mica sheets. The hair neatly arranged in a short tail and with a bracelet of shells hanging around his neck. The polished and flattened underside with deeply excavated asymmetrical himotoshi and signed in a rectangular mother-of-pearl plaque RAKUMIN and with a kakihan.

HEIGHT 3.5 cm

Condition: Good condition, minor repairs to the shakujo rattle.
