A LARGE GILT-LACQUER TEMPLE FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA, VIETNAM, 18TH CENTURY

拍品描述
Finely carved seated in European style on a rectangular base, the hands before the chest in vitarka mudra, dressed in monastic robes tied with a loop at the left shoulder, the face and hands lacquered in a skin tone, the robes and headdress covered in gilt, red, and black lacquer. The face with a serene expression and downcast eyes painted in white and black, below finely lined eyebrows, the lips painted in red, and surmounted by a tall crown with seven panels each carved with a seated Buddha. Provenance: From the private collection of an American philanthropist, Fifth Avenue, New York City. The collection was assembled over many years by an astute collector of great sophistication and refined taste. Condition: Good condition commensurate with age, showing old wear, natural age cracks, flaking and touchups to the lacquer, small repairs to the right earlobe and both hands, small losses, scattered nicks, and surface scratches.Weight: 35.5 kg Dimensions: Height 94 cmLiterature comparison:Compare a closely related gilt-lacquered wood figure in the Giam Pagoda, Cam Giang district, Hai Duong province.
