拍品描述
Of typical bell form, the handle with four prongs terminating in a flat disc, the central section with two protrusions, the lower section decorated with concentric lines suspending five pairs of S-form spirals.Provenance: From a private estate in France. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, extensive wear, small losses, signs of weathering and erosion, corrosion, and casting irregularities. Fine malachite patina. Weight: 277 g Dimensions: Height 16 cmThe Ban Chiang culture (circa 1500 BC-300 AD) of northeastern Thailand and the Dong Son culture (700 BC-100 AD) of northern Vietnam and China were both influential prehistoric societies in Southeast Asia, sharing notable connections in material culture and technological advancements. Both cultures were skilled in bronze metallurgy, particularly in the production of weapons, tools, and decorative items. Additionally, similarities in pottery styles and burial practices indicate interaction between these societies, possibly through shared trade networks along river systems. Thus, some of the excavated objects from Ban Chiang have been falsely linked to Dong Song in the past.Literature comparison:Compare a related bronze bell, Ban Chiang culture, dated to ca. 300 BC-200 AD, also with spiral decoration, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, object number 1987.424.3.1.
