A copy of the original signed invoice from E & J Frankel, dated 13 October 1990, addressed to Betty Ellen Eisler, confirming the provenance and dating above, and stating a purchase price for the present lot of USD 2,000 or approx. Sir Herbert Ingram, 2nd Baronet (1875-1958) was a British art collector whose grandfather founded the Illustrated London News. He first developed an interest in Japanese art during his 1908 honeymoon in Japan, where he acquired over 1,000 pieces, including Satsuma earthenware, sword furniture, lacquer, and netsuke. Later, he shifted focus to early Chinese monochromes and made a considerable contribution to the identification of Yue ware. A dedicated member of the Oriental Ceramic Society who served on its Council for several years, he generously shared his collection with scholars and occasionally published papers. In 1956 he gave his collection, comprising over 3,000 mostly Chinese or Japanese ceramics and bronzes, to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. E & J Frankel was a major New York gallery specializing in Asian Art since 1967. Run by Edith (1939-2012) and Joel Frankel (1937-2018), it was one of the oldest galleries in the United States focusing exclusively on Asian art. Leaders in their field, the Frankels traveled the world in search of Asian art treasures and educated the general public about their shared passion. Their gallery on Madison Avenue in New York City became a local institution, best known for its regular schedule of innovative thematic exhibitions, and frequently visited by the biggest names in the field, such as Eskenazi, Ellsworth, Junkunc, and the Alsdorfs. Betty Ellen Eisler (1926-2023) was a proud-and-loud lifetime New Yorker and longtime fashion merchandising executive. After attending the Tobe-Coburn School for Fashion Careers, she worked for 35 years as a national buyer and merchandise manager. After she retired in 1989, she helped her cousin Harold Gottesman with his Manhattan Mini Storage business, where she developed and ran the collection process. She was an avid collector of antique Chinese ceramics and loved to travel. Pieces from her collection are now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.Condition: Good condition with expected old, wear and firing irregularities.
