Southern Siberia. Separately cast in three parts that are hinged together, each section applied with a gold repousse panel, decorated to the center with the head of a centaur, his mustachioed face modeled with a lush beard, wide eyes, thick hair, and two curled horns, flanked by panels embossed with feline beasts crouching low, ready to pounce.Provenance: From the collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Wear, losses, flaking, small dents, scratches, nicks, and encrustations. The pin of one hinge lost.Alloy composition range: 78.93% gold, 20.08% silver, 0.84% iron, 0.14% copper (the central gold plaque).
