The tapered cup, raised on a stem foot and rising to a rolled lip, features a large C-form handle applied to the side, terminating in a beast head. The body is embossed with strutting feline beasts.Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, showing extensive wear and manufacturing irregularities. Small dings, some warping, scattered nicks and scratches, encrustations, and signs of weathering. Old repairs.Weight: 160 gDimensions: Height 12.2 cmThe nomadic gold- and silversmiths of Marlik and Amlash were the first masters of precious metalwork in Iran. Their successors were the bronze workers of Luristan and the silversmiths of the Achaemenian and Sasanian empires.
