拍品描述
A GREEN JADE TOOTHED ANIMAL MASK ORNAMENT, NEOLITHIC PERIOD, HONGSHAN CULTURE

China, circa 3500 BC. The mask is carved in the center with a row of double pointed protrusions at the bottom that resemble the teeth of an animal. The central mask is flanked by two confronted stylized dragons with C-shaped bodies and long curved horns, and pierced to the top for suspension. The translucent stone is of a forest green color with creamy patches and dark specks.

Provenance
: Ex-collection Terry D. Ranier, Paris. Antichita’ La Balaustra, Bologna, Italy, 1996. Collection of Paolo Bertuzzi, acquired from the above. A copy of a certificate written and signed by Giuliana Zanetti of Antichita’ La Balaustra, dated 3 March 1996, addressed to Paolo Bertuzzi, and confirming the dating above, accompanies the lot. Paolo Bertuzzi (1943-2022) was a fashion stylist from Bologna, Italy. He was the son of Enrichetta Bertuzzi, founder of Hettabretz, a noted Italian fashion company with customers such as the Rothschild family, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. Paolo Bertuzzi later took over his mother’s business and designed exclusive pieces, some of which were exhibited in the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, USA. He was also an avid collector of antiques for more than 60 years. His collection includes both archaic and contemporary art, and he edited two important books about Asian art, Goa Made - An Archaeological Discovery, about a large-scale archaeological project carried out with the Italian and Indonesian governments, and Majapahit, Masterpieces from a Forgotten Kingdom.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, showing old wear and some nibbling along the rims. Some distinct areas of decomposition and erosion around the edges, as expected from a jade which has been buried for several millennia.
