A THANGKA OF EKADASHAMUKHA AVALOKITESHVARA, 19TH CENTURY

Tibet. Gold and distemper on cloth. Depicted with eleven heads and eight arms holding attributes including a bow, a dharma wheel, a lotus blossom, and a water vessel, his primary hands held in namaskara mudra. He is dressed in an elaborate dhoti, adorned with beaded jewelry, green sashes framing the body, and backed by a radiating mandorla. The upper register with two Buddhas, and the lower register depicting Manjushri and Vajrapani.

Provenance
: From a European private collection. The reverse inscribed with ‘Nr. 4’ and ‘E.S.’.
Condition: Good condition with old wear, creasing, minor losses to the pigments, browning, little soiling, minor touchups, and few small repairs.
