拍品描述
A BOXWOOD FIGURE OF GUANYIN, 18TH-19TH CENTURY

China. Well carved seated cross-legged, wearing voluminous robes which pool in graceful folds below the feet, and adorned with lappet and beaded jewelry. Her face is finely modeled with a pensive expression, with heavy-lidded downcast eyes and bow-shaped lips forming a subtle smile, flanked by long pendulous earlobes. The wavy hair arranged in an elaborate high coiffure secured with an openworked floral tiara.

Provenance: From a French private collection.
Condition: Good condition with wear, expected age cracks and splits with associated old repairs. Light scratches, minor nibbling to edges, few minute nicks.

Weight: 286.6 g
Dimensions: Height 16.2 cm

Literature comparison:
Compare an earlier wood figure of Guanyin seated in a similar pose, dated to the Song dynasty, in the Musée Guimet, Paris.

Auction result comparison:
Type: Closely related
