During the Tang dynasty, the art of mirror production flourished, marked by innovative designs and techniques. In the 8th century, a novel method emerged: coating the back of bronze mirrors with lacquer and adorning the surface with inlaid motifs of gold, silver, or mother-of-pearl. The current mirror exemplifies this style, featuring mother-of-pearl inlay against a dark lacquered background. However, the inlay and lacquer work likely date to the Kangxi period, when this technique experienced a revival and gained renewed and immense popularity.
