A SELJUK NIELLOED SILVER-GILT PECTORAL, 12TH-14TH CENTURY

Iran. The amulet case of flattened crescent form with tapering terminals with circular suspension loops, the silver sheet hammered, engraved and nielloed to depict a budding floral tendril rising from a central roundel with a foliated quatrefoil, the verso with two felines inlaid in gilt, all against scrollwork and raised studs.

Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, dents and warping with associated tears and losses, encrustations, tarnish to silver.
