A LARGE BACTRIAN AGATE BEAD, CIRCA LATE 3RD CENTURY BC

The opaque stone is of a white hue with dark burgundy and pale orange inclusions. Pierced through the center for suspension. Of unusual biconical elongated form.

Provenance: From the collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, with old wear, small nicks, signs of weathering and erosions, extensive encrustations and corrosion, indicating a prolonged period of burial. The stone with natural fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks.
