A FINE NECKLACE WITH 15 FIGURAL GOLD BEADS, ANCIENT REGION OF GANDHARA, 1ST-2ND CENTURY

Comprising beads made of sheet-gold over bitumen cores, the four largest modeled as standing figures, one of V-shape with two conjoined female torsos, and ten in the form of a bearded head surmounted by a smaller head pierced for suspension, alternating with 24 smaller gold beads, 40 blue glass beads, and one hardstone bead.

Provenance: From the collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: The present necklace is a modern assemblage of ancient necklace components. Good condition with minor wear, the seams reapplied with gold foil, flaking, small dents, scratches, nicks, and encrustations.
Alloy composition range:?94.28% gold, 2.82% copper, 1.51% silver, 1.38% iron. The lot was tested by the Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum.
