A SMALL CARVED CELADON ‘LOTUS’ DISH, 18TH CENTURY

China. Finely potted with shallow sides supported on a short tapered foot and rising to a foliate rim, neatly incised with a peony pattern radiating from a central pod towards the foliate rim, covered in a pale celadon glaze darkening in the recesses. The recessed base with an apocryphal underglaze-blue four-character mark Chenghua nianzhi.

Provenance
: From the private collection of Suzanne Braley, and thence by descent. Suzanne Henriette Marguerite Braley (1893-1970) was a banker based in Monte Carlo, Monaco. She also lived in Shanghai between around 1910 and 1920, where she collected Chinese antiques including snuff bottles, porcelain, and paintings.
Condition: Excellent condition with only minor wear and firing irregularities.
