Description

From the series of plaques from a stupa, which served as a background for deity figures. In the lower center a floral column rising from an amrita vase and ending in a blossom and a large jewel. To the left, four small protector deities, each holding a sword, a flag, and a staff. To the right, three more deities, including a larger depiction of the dancing Makaramukha holding a trident. An inscription to the left. Dakini Makaramukha is most often depicted in a pair with Dakini Simhavaktra, as attendants to the Goddess Palden Lhamo, a form of Shri Devi. The two ungilt spots in the lower section of the panel are probably due to the absence of two further, separately cast appliques.
