YELLOW TAIHU SCHOLAR ROCK Qing Dynasty This Taihu stone features a captivating yellow-white hue with a delicate bluish sheen, classifying it as a yellow Taihu stone. Its surface is intricately marked with numerous depressions and perforations, reminiscent of weathered wood, which imparts a deep rustic charm. The stone tapers elegantly from a fuller top to a slender base, evoking the image of a solitary tree on a steep cliff, resulting in a striking silhouette. Du Wan noted in *Yunlin Stone Records* that Taihu stones are “formed by the forces of waves, known as bullet nests; when tapped, they produce a soft sound.” Zhao Xihu remarked in ‘Dongtian Qinglu’ that “these stones can emit subtle sounds and feature intricate veins; scraping them with a sharp knife yields fine shavings.” This piece beautifully captures both of these remarkable characteristics.
