Condition: Good condition with minor wear and natural imperfections including expected minor age cracks. Tiny chips. Minor losses with old repair to the tips of the right hand (Kannon was likely holding a scroll which is now lost).

Nomura Genko (active circa 1800-1830) was trained as a Buddhist image sculptor (Busshi) and is considered one of the four great wood sculptors of the late Edo Period, together with Matsumoto Ryozan, Takahashi Hozan, and Takahashi Houn. Nomura was a Buddhist and practitioner of the Jodo school (Pure Land Buddism) and followed the teaching of Priest Tokuhon (1758-1818). He taught Takamura Toun whose students included Takamura Koun (1852-1934).
