拍品描述
TADAYUKI: A FINE WOOD NETSUKE OF A SNAIL

By Tadayuki, signed Tadayuki 忠行
Japan, Nagoya, c. 1820-1840, Edo period (1615-1868)

Finely carved, of ideally compact shape, depicting a snail emerging from its shell, the radial markings of the shell carefully executed, the body of the snail neatly textured, and the antennae naturalistically folded over its body. The natural himotoshi ingeniously runs underneath the curled foot and signed within a polished rectangular reserve TADAYUKI.

LENGTH 3.6 cm

Condition: One antenna restored. Otherwise good condition with light expected wear.

Neil Davey writes on this artist, “Little can be said of this artist, save for the fact that he worked very much in the tradition of Tadatoshi, producing similar models, lightly stained of compact form.”
