- Acquired in February 2012 from Ilunga Gallery, Brussels and Ghent, Belgium, with their certificate of authenticity.
- Previously in the collection of Marius Van Den Hout, Java.


Translation of the certificate:


Kubera, god of prosperity and the North, Central Java period 1st century AD.


Kubera or Kuwera, husband of the goddess Hariti and protector of children, god of the Yakshas and wealth. Through his encounter with Buddha, Kubera became one of the leading proponents of Buddhism. Kubera is usually depicted sitting on his throne with figures clambering along either side, his right leg in a half-extended position resting on a huge shell, which symbolizes his alertness. In his right hand he holds a "Ratna-Patra" (jewellery jar) and in the other a mongoose. There are four money pots symbolically in front of him as a sign of prosperity. Bronze with malachite oxidation in many green variations.
