A BRONZE WINE VESSEL AND COVER, HU, WARRING STATES TO HAN DYNASTY

China, 475 BC-220 AD. Heavily cast, the globular body supported on a spreading foot and rising to a waisted neck with flaring galleried mouth, and encircled by two raised bands, the shoulder applied with a pair of finely cast taotie masks suspending loose rings. The domed cover is surmounted by three handles in the form of stylized horned beasts.

Provenance: Dutch trade. Acquired from a private estate in Amsterdam.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, signs of weathering and erosion, encrustations, losses, nicks, scratches. The bronze covered in a rich, naturally grown patina with vibrant malachite, azurite, and cuprite encrustations.
