拍品描述
A BRONZE HAND OF BUDDHA, SUKHOTHAI KINGDOM (1238-1438)

Thailand, late 13th to 14th century. Finely cast in the abhaya mudra, this hand exemplifies the elegance characteristic of Sukhothai period Buddha imagery. The thin, elongated fingers are meticulously detailed with nails and creases, gracefully extending to a slender wrist above a delicately draped sleeve. The refined proportions and gentle curves of the hand reflect the period's emphasis on grace and serenity, capturing the spiritual calm and subtle sophistication that define Sukhothai art.

Provenance: From a French private collection, acquired in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1975.
Condition: The fragment in good condition, commensurate with age, with wear and casting irregularities, signs of weathering and erosion, encrustations, obvious losses. The bronze with a rich, naturally grown, dark patina with areas of malachite encrustation.

Weight: 510.8 g
Dimensions: Height 17.5 cm

Literature comparison:
Compare a closely related bronze hand of Buddha, 18.4 cm long, dated approximately to the 15th century, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 15.123.4.
