AN ALABASTER HEAD OF BUDDHA, SHAN STYLE, 17TH-18TH CENTURY

Burma. Finely carved, the serene face modeled with a meditative expression marked by downcast eyes with neatly incised heavy lids and elegantly arched brows, the pupils painted in black pigment, his slender bow-shaped lips forming a calm smile, flanked by elongated earlobes, the hair left plain over the ushinisha topped by a lotus bud.

Provenance: From a French private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with some old wear, few scratches, encrustations, tiny chips, few structural fissures, remnants of black lacquer, old repairs to the earlobes and back of the neck.
