A PAINTED POTTERY TWO-HANDLED JAR, NEOLITHIC PERIOD

China, Yangshao culture, Banshan phase, 2nd half 3rd millennium BC. Well potted with broad rounded shoulders surmounted by a cylindrical neck applied with two small pierced humanoid mask-like flanges flanked by two loop handles. The exterior freely painted with four lobed panels enclosing hatched designs, framed by bands of sawtooth pattern.

Provenance: From the private collection of a Lady and Gentleman in the United Kingdom.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, small nicks, light scratches, few small chips, traces of weathering, and a thin hairline at the upper rim.
