拍品描述
AN EXCEPTIONAL AND RARE GILT BRONZE STUPA, TIBET, 14TH-15TH CENTURY

The domed base rising from a double-lotus frieze and supporting the stepped harmika, surmounted by ten tapered parasols, a canopy, and lotus bud finial. The underside sealed with an undecorated copper plate.

Provenance: From a private collection in Denmark.
Condition: Very good condition with expected old wear, small nicks, light surface scratches, and casting flaws. The base possibly resealed at some point in time.

Weight: 399.3 g
Dimensions: Height 13.4 cm

Stupas were originally memorial monuments built over the mortal remains of the Shakyamuni, and other important figures. They represent the past and the present, and are a symbol of Nirvana. The square Mt. Sumeru base and the tapered steps are Tibetan, while the rounded dome is Indian in origin.
